Australia's
Northern Territory is the heart of the Outback, known for its rugged
red vistas, Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kakadu National Park, stockmen riding
into a rich sunset, and a superb tropical lifestyle.
Located on the top left hand
side of the map of Australia, Darwin is the capital of the Northern
Territory. A city which captured world headlines when it was destroyed,
in 1974 by Cyclone Tracy, Darwin today has been rebuilt in grand style
and is the most cosmopolitan of all of Australia's capital cities.
A vibrant, developing economy,
the Northern Territory has one sixth of Australia's land mass and just
over one percent of the population - but with by far the youngest, wealthiest
population in the nation.
A
land of vast open spaces, of economic growth, stunning beauty and the
home of some very "real" Territory-style characters whose
unique stories have made the Northern Territory a special part of the
world.
Tourism, agriculture, aquaculture,
mining and cattle are the main industries for this northern most part
of the world's most exciting continent.
The gateway to Asia for the
rest of Australia, or the window into the country for the rest of the
world, the Northern Territory is a unique part of the most exciting
continent on earth.
The Northern Territory is
GMT +9.5 hours and has a tropical climate.
